Academics

Academic achievement is a key part of being a brother of Phi Gamma Delta. Our collective commitment to scholarship means that we frequently have brothers who make it onto the dean’s list in their respective faculties or are recipients of other significant UBC awards or distinctions. Recent highlights from our undergraduate chapter include,

  • Multiple Major Entrance Scholars, including both Centennial Scholars and Presidential Scholars

  • Former and current employees at companies like Apple, Tesla, Samsung, SAP, JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley, McKinsey, RBC, Scotiabank, TD, KPMG, Deloitte, National Bank, Nomura Greentech, the Canadian Government Ministry of National Defense, Thrive Health, and more

  • Students of all faculties and all majors, pursuing work in countless fields; roughly 30% of FIJIs are in Science, 30% in Arts, 20% in Business, and the remaining spread across Kinesiology, Engineering, and LFS

To both achieve and maintain this level of success in scholarship, we focus on supporting one another in our academic pursuits. Some supports we have include:

  • A recently renovated chapter “study room” which features an adaptable learning environment with opportunities for group study or solo study, multiple printers, mood lighting and school supplies for every subject

  • Access to a shared fraternity Course Hero account, alongside other shared academic resources

  • Monthly check-ins with brothers on their progress towards their academic aspirations, including grade goals, research positions, and internship hunting

  • Information and assistance from older brothers on navigating their career path and applying to scholarships

  • A community-minded environment where all brothers help each other exceed to the best of their abilities

Using all these strategies allows our chapter to excel in their studies and allows our fraternity to consistently outrank the UBC all-mens average and IFC average, hovering just shy of 80% in the 2020 winter semester!
